Adhip P. N. Majumdar
Editor
Affiliation: Professor Emeritus & Senior Research Career Scientist (Retired), USA
Research Interests: Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Nutritional Sciences, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology
Biography:
I have been a Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at Wayne State University and Karmanos Cancer Institute and recently retired as "Professor Emeritus". I also held the post of Senior Research Career Scientist at the John D Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit. I have been funded by both NIH and the Department of Veterans Affairs uninterrupted for more than 30 years. Over the years I have mentored many undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, medical residents as well as junior investigators, and have also collaborated with many investigators in this country and abroad. I have the necessary expertise, leadership skills and training as well as motivation that are required to carry out the proposed study to its completion. Over the past several years my work has been streamlined to uncover the biochemical and physiological pathways governing the growth of gastrointestinal tract (GI) and have published over 200 original scientific articles in peer-review journals and a multitude of book chapters/ review articles. Moreover, as reflected by the literature published from my lab, I have been and continue to be interested in elucidating the patho-physiology of age-related changes in the GI mucosa specifically those which lead to the development of malignancy. Some of our work on aging and GI malignancy is summarized in the review articles/book chapters.

Research interests: Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal Neoplasms, Endoscopy, EUS, Pancreatic Cancer, Pancreatic Diseases
Biography:
Dr. Qiang Cai is one of the major therapeutic endoscopists at Emory University Hospital, Director of Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship, and a professor of medicine in the Division of Digestive Diseases at Emory University School of Medicine. He received the "Best Teacher" award three times at the Emory University School of Medicine.
His main research interests are pancreatobiliary diseases as well as therapeutic endoscopy. He is one of the few gastroenterologists who can perform all different kinds of gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, including ERCP, EUS, STER, EFTR, Zenker’s diverticulostomy, etc. He is capable of removing large flat polyps and stromal tumors in the gastrointestinal system. More recently, he started new endoscopic procedures, such as endoscopic submusocal dissection (ESD) for some gastrointestinal cancers, per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for patients with achalasia and gastric per oral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM) for patients with gastroparesis. Those procedures are only available in a few centers in the United States. In addition to his research and clinical work, he teaches medical students, internal medicine residents and gastroenterology fellows of editorial boards. He also serves as editor, associate editor and member of editorial boards for many journals, including American Journal of Gastroenterology. He is the current president of Georgia Gastroenterological and Endoscopic Society and Governor elected of American College of Gastroenterology in Georgia State.

Biography :
Céline Tiffon received her Ph.D.in Tumor Biology from the University of Bern, Switzerland, working on the subject of liver and pancreatic cancers. She carried out postdoctoral research at the Cancer Science Division of the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. Her research interests focused on the molecular mechanisms triggered by two licensed HDAC inhibitors in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma with a particular emphasis on cytokine expression. She continued with postdoctoral research at the University of Burgundy, France, investigating the impact of endocrine disruptors on salivary gland development. She currently works as a scientific officer at the National Cancer Institute, France.

Lan Zhou
Editor
Affiliation: State University of Newyork, USA
Research Interests: colitis-associated colon cancer carcinogenesis, serrated pathway colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, Notch, Hes1
Biography:
Dr. Lan Zhou earned her M.D. from Shanghai Medical University in 1991 and her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology at State University of New York at Buffalo. She then joined the lab of Dr. John Lowe in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of Michigan working on Notch fucosylation modification in hematopoiesis. She then started her Clinical Pathology Residency training in 2001 followed by Transfusion Medicine Fellowship training at the University of Michigan Hospitals. In 2005, Dr. Zhou joined Case Western Research University School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology as an Assistant Professor, and she has clinical services in Transfusion Medicine since. She became the Director of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory at University Hospitals Case Medical Center (UHCMC) in 2007. She is currently an Associate Professor with tenure. Dr. Zhou is board certified in American Board of Clinical Pathology/Transfusion Medicine and American Board of Molecular Genetic Pathology.
The research in Dr. Zhou’s laboratory focuses on Notch in hematopoiesis and in cancer biology. Her research focus related to gastroenterology is to explore the role of Notch/Hes1 in colon epithelial homeostasis, immunity, and colon carcinogenesis in the serrated pathway. She is also studying new biomarkers and their pathophysiology in pancreatic cancer. In addition, Dr. Zhou’s research is devoted to understanding how fucosylation affects Notch-dependent regulation of hematopoietic stem cell proliferation, hematopoietic stem cell niche maintenance, and the role of Notch in leukemia and tumor micro-environment.

Biography: The core of research activities focuses on different aspects of atrophic gastritis ranging from diagnosis, management, follow-up and risk factors of patients affected by this precancerous condition. Amongst these items, specific research questions have been addressed, first of all the risk of gastric neoplasms, as intestinal-type adenocarcinoma and type 1 gastric carcinoids, at long-term follow-up, and specific risk factors for the development of these neoplasms, in particular, the presence of gastric dysplasia, gastric polyps, intestinal metaplasia and its topographic distribution within the stomach as well the role of Helicobacter pylori infection. Another main issue of research activity is pernicious anemia as clinical manifestation of late stage atrophic gastritis leading to cobalamin deficiency and it is not clearly defined risk of gastric neoplasms, but also as clinical manifestation of autoimmune gastritis and its conflicting relationship to Helicobacter pylori infection.
